This Cookies & Similar Technologies Policy (“Cookies Policy”) explains how Radu Sterie (“we”, “us”, or “our”) uses cookies, SDKs and similar technologies in connection with Whispair (the “App”) and any related websites.
This Cookies Policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
If you have questions, you can contact us at:
hello@whispair.app
1. What are cookies and similar technologies?
1.1 Cookies (for websites)
Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device (computer, smartphone, tablet) when you visit a website. They allow the website to recognise your device and store information about your preferences or past actions, such as login state, language, or items in a cart.
1.2 SDKs and app identifiers (for mobile apps)
In mobile apps like Whispair, similar technologies are used, such as:
SDKs (Software Development Kits) embedded in the App;
Mobile identifiers (such as IDFA on iOS, GAID on Android, or other advertising or device identifiers);
Local storage and similar mechanisms on your device.
In this Policy, we refer to all of these collectively as “cookies and similar technologies” or simply “cookies”.
2. Why do we use cookies and similar technologies?
We use cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:
To make the App and our websites work properly (strictly necessary).
To improve performance and understand how the App is used (analytics).
To remember your preferences (functional).
To support advertising and measure the effectiveness of ads (advertising/marketing).
Some of these technologies are set by us (first-party); others are set by our partners (third-party).
Where required by law, we will ask for your consent before using non-essential cookies or similar technologies (for example, analytics or advertising cookies).
3. Types of cookies and technologies we use
3.1 Strictly necessary
These technologies are essential for:
providing basic App and website functions;
enabling core security and prevention of abuse;
allowing you to log in and manage your account;
processing your choices about cookies themselves.
Without these, the App or website may not function correctly.
Because they are strictly necessary, they are used without requiring your consent (but only to the extent permitted by law).
Examples of what they support:
Keeping you logged in between screens or sessions.
Routing your traffic to the correct servers.
Applying your content, safety and cookie preferences.
Preventing fraudulent use of accounts or features.
3.2 Performance & analytics
These technologies help us understand how users interact with the App and websites so we can improve them. They may collect information such as:
which screens or pages are visited, and how often;
how long sessions last;
what features are used (e.g., sending Whispers, catching Whispers, using streaks or rankings);
crash reports, error logs and performance metrics.
We typically use aggregated or pseudonymous data for analytics. Where required by law, we only use these technologies with your consent.
Examples of what they support:
Measuring how many users use the App and how often.
Understanding which features are popular or confusing.
Diagnosing crashes or bugs.
Improving App performance and UI.
3.3 Functional
Functional technologies allow us to:
remember your language, region or other settings;
save certain in-app preferences;
provide enhanced or personalised features (e.g., remembering how you interact with prompts or filters).
If disabled, some features may not work as smoothly, but the core App should still function.
Where required, we rely on your consent for these; in other cases we rely on our legitimate interests in providing a better user experience.
3.4 Advertising & marketing
We may display ads in the App (for example, as in-app cards) and on our websites.
Contextual ads (no tracking / no profiling):
In some cases, we may show ads without using advertising identifiers or tracking technologies to personalise ads.
Personalised ads, ad measurement, and attribution (tracking-based):
To support personalised advertising and ad measurement/attribution, we or our partners may use cookies and similar technologies (including advertising identifiers such as IDFA/GAID, where available and permitted) to:
show ads in our App;
limit how often you see the same ad;
measure the performance of ads (clicks, installs, conversions);
detect and prevent fraud and invalid traffic;
where allowed and with your consent, personalise ads based on your interests or device identifiers.
The data used for advertising is often pseudonymous (e.g., ad IDs or aggregated usage information), but in some cases may be linked to your account if necessary and permitted.
Important:
We do not sell your personal data.
In the EU/EEA/UK, analytics and advertising technologies that store or access information on your device (including SDK identifiers and advertising IDs like IDFA/GAID) are used only with your consent, except where strictly necessary for security and core functionality.
Where required by law, we will ask for your consent before using technologies for personalised advertising, ad measurement, and attribution.
For example, if you do not consent to personalised/targeted advertising where required, we will show untargeted/contextual ads where available.
4. Third-party partners
We may use third-party partners who set or access cookies and similar technologies in our App and websites, for purposes including:
Analytics and performance (e.g., usage statistics, crash reporting);
Advertising and ad measurement;
Content delivery (e.g., CDNs);
Security and anti-fraud.
These partners process data in accordance with their own privacy policies. They may act as:
Processors, processing data on our instructions; and/or
Independent controllers, determining their own purposes and means, especially for analytics or advertising.
Examples of key partners we may use include:
Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) and Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) for ads and consent management.
Google Firebase (e.g., Firebase Cloud Messaging and Firebase Crashlytics) for push notification delivery and crash reporting.
Google Analytics for Firebase for usage and performance analytics. In the EU/EEA/UK we enable it only with your consent; if you do not consent, analytics collection stays disabled on your device.
Cloudflare Turnstile for security and abuse prevention checks.
You can find more information about specific partners in our Privacy Policy and, where applicable, in the cookie consent interface on the website or in the App’s settings (including the in-app Privacy Options screen for ad technology partners, where available).
5. What information do cookies collect?
Depending on their type and your settings, cookies and similar technologies may collect:
Device information (e.g., device model, OS version, language, time zone);
App information (App version, installation date, session duration);
Usage data (features used, screens viewed, interactions with Whispers, rankings, streaks, etc.);
Crash and performance data (e.g., error logs, freeze events);
Network information (IP address, approximate location derived from IP);
Advertising identifiers (IDFA, GAID, or similar) where allowed by your device settings;
Referrer and attribution data (e.g., how you found the App or website).
We use this information as described in our Privacy Policy (for example, to provide the service, maintain security, and perform analytics and advertising).
6. How you can manage your cookie & tracking choices
6.1 In the App
We provide controls within the App that allow you to:
review and change your consent choices for advertising technologies (including choices that affect personalised/targeted ads), where required by law.
In particular, where applicable you can open the consent/privacy options form from:
Settings → Privacy Options (Manage ad consent).
If you do not consent to personalised/targeted ads where required, we will show untargeted/contextual ads where available.
Some technologies that are strictly necessary for security and basic functionality cannot be disabled.
6.2 On the website
Where required by law, when you first visit our website(s), we may show you a cookie banner or consent tool that:
explains the categories of cookies we use;
asks for your consent for analytics and advertising cookies;
lets you accept all, reject all, or manage your preferences.
You can usually change your preferences at any time via a “Cookie settings” or similar link at the bottom of the website.
6.3 Browser settings
Most browsers let you:
view which cookies are stored on your device;
delete cookies;
block or restrict cookies from specific sites or all sites.
If you block or delete cookies, some parts of our website may not function properly.
For more information, see your browser’s help pages (e.g., Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge).
6.4 Mobile device settings (advertising IDs)
On mobile devices, you can typically control advertising-related identifiers (like IDFA or GAID) in your device settings, for example:
limiting ad tracking or turning off personalised ads.
These controls are provided by your device’s operating system, not by us.
6.5 Opt-outs from specific networks
Some advertising or analytics partners may offer their own opt-out mechanisms. You can find more details in their privacy policies, which we link in our Privacy Policy or in the consent interface where applicable.
7. How this relates to your personal data and GDPR
Some cookies and similar technologies involve the processing of personal data, such as:
device identifiers;
IP addresses;
usage patterns;
ad identifiers.
When we use these technologies:
We identify a purpose (e.g., analytics, security, advertising) and a legal basis (e.g., legitimate interests or consent), as described in our Privacy Policy;
Where required for non-essential purposes (such as analytics or personalised advertising), we rely on your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR;
You have rights under the GDPR (e.g., to access, delete, or restrict personal data, or to object to certain processing). These are explained in more detail in our Privacy Policy.
You can exercise your rights by contacting us at hello@whispair.app.
8. Retention of cookies and similar data
The lifespan of a cookie or similar technology depends on its type:
Session cookies: typically exist only while your browser is open and are deleted when you close it.
Persistent cookies: remain on your device for a defined period or until you delete them (e.g., days, months or years).
App identifiers and local storage: may remain until you reset your device identifier, uninstall the App, or clear the App’s data.
We aim to limit retention of cookie-related data to what is necessary for the purposes described in this Policy and in our Privacy Policy. Where possible, we use aggregated or pseudonymous data for analytics and advertising.
9. Changes to this Cookies Policy
We may update this Cookies Policy from time to time, for example to reflect:
changes in the cookies or technologies we use;
changes in the App’s features;
changes in applicable law or regulatory guidance.
When we update this Policy, we will:
change the “Last updated” date at the top; and
where appropriate, provide additional notice (for example, on our website or in the App).
If you continue to use the App or our websites after an updated Cookies Policy becomes effective, you are deemed to have accepted the changes. If you do not agree, you should adjust your cookie settings, stop using our services, and/or uninstall the App.
